Building Trades is a program that provides students with basic skills and knowledge of the tools and equipment in the construction trades focused on carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and roofing. Students will be introduced to the basic concepts, principles, and fundamentals of each. Emphasis is placed on the skills common to each of these trades along with teamwork, problem solving, and job site safety.

Building Trades curriculum includes:

  • Use of hand tools, power tools, & shop equipment

  • The standard ruler/tape measure

  • Rough carpentry

  • Finish carpentry

  • Concepts of Plumb, Level and Square

  • Process of soldering copper pipe

  • Residential plumbing systems

  • Residential electrical circuitry rough in process

  • Installation of electrical fixtures

  • Roof layout, design, fabrication and installation

  • Roofing materials

  • Anatomy of common residential roofs

  • Jobsite safety and communication skills
