The Landscape Horticulture Program prepares students for the fields of Landscaping and Turf Management. With two instructors, each with their own niche, the instruction inside and outside the classroom is broken into two areas: Landscape and Nursery Management along with Turfgrass and Golf Course Management. The duel campuses that we maintain (Career Center and Bio-Technology High School) are “living classrooms” for our students.
All students in the Horticulture Landscape program have the opportunity to participate in the school’s FFA chapter.
Landscape Horticulture curriculum includes:
Develop leadership skills
Develop employability skills
Exploring the Horticulture Industry
Safe operation and maintenance of landscape and turf equipment
Students maintain our 95 yard par-3 golf hole including the tee, fairway and golf green which are all built to USGA specifications
Nursery industry
Plant anatomy and morphology
Identifying common grasses and weeds
Identifying common woody and herbaceous landscape plants
Pest management
Identifying common insects and diseases and their controls
Pruning techniques
Plant propagation techniques
Soil types and testing
Post Secondary Opportunities
